In a press release published this Friday, the CMA CGM Group announced that it is stepping up its efforts to support the purchasing power of French households.
CMA CGM announces that it wants to strengthen its commitment made on June 30 in order to support the purchasing power of French households. Several measures have been taken by the Group, such as increasing the reduction in freight rates: initially planned at 500 euros, CMA CGM has decided to increase the reduction per 40-foot container to 750 euros for all imports into mainland France and in Overseas. This measure, initially intended for 14 large retail chains in mainland France, has now been extended to all of its customers in France, large groups such as SMEs and very small businesses.

A reduction of 100 euros per 40-foot container for all French exports will also be implemented. This decrease is intended to support the competitiveness of export companies, especially VSEs and SMEs that promote France’s know-how around the world“, explains CMA CGM.
The measures come into force on August 1.
These measures represent reductions of up to 25% in the freight rate, says the group, which adds that they will come into force on 1er August 2022 for a period of one year. “ They have been defined in consultation with the Ministry of the Economy, Finance and Industrial and Digital Sovereignty and have been the subject of discussions with the Group’s customers and certain federations, including the CPME (Confederation of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises)“, specifies the press release.

CMA-CGM specifies that in the Overseas Territories, the State will be able to control the consumer prices of products (food products, personal hygiene, cleaning products, small household equipment) via the Quality/Price shield system (BQP). CMA CGM would also like to point out that these measures follow other initiatives taken over more than a year, and in particular the freezing of freight rates “ floating » since September 2021 (and even May 2021 in the Overseas Territories). Finally, the Group has allocated dedicated capacity to SMEs on board its vessels, in the markets where tensions are greatest (Europe, North America), at a negotiated rate usually accessible for much larger volume commitments concludes the press release.
