Alejandro Valverde took 6th place for the last race of his career, Romain Bardet finished 9th.
Sergio Higuita took 4th place ahead of Carlos Rodriguez.
Mikel Landa takes third place in this Tour of Lombardy.
🚴🏼 Victory for Tadej Pogacar!!!
Mas throws first, but the Slovenian was the strongest, unsurprisingly.
1.5 km – Landa is 8 seconds behind, Mas watches his compatriot before the sprint.
Only two kilometers left in this Tour of Lombardy!
2.6 km – Mas collaborates with Pogacar and tries to secure at least 2nd place.
3.2 km – attention Landa is not far from coming back, he is 9 seconds away. Above all, it threatens the very probable 2nd place of Mas.
4km: it is difficult to see how Pogacar could not beat Mas in the sprint.
5km – Landa is now 14 seconds behind the leading duo.
🔴 5.5 km: AGAINST POGACAR but the two riders rock side by side at the top of this last difficulty of the day.
🔴 5.7km – Landa comes back and MAS ATTACK AGAIN!
🔴 6.1 km – MAS ATTACK! Landa immediately jumps, Pogacar easily follows.
6.6km: the three leading men do not set a big pace. No runner wants to be countered.
6.9km – Carlos Rodriguez and Sergio Higuita form a first countergroup 34 seconds behind the leading trio.
🔴 7.7km: we attack the last ascent of this Tour of Lombardy!
9km: we are witnessing a boulevard towards a victory for Pogacar. We don’t see how Mas or Landa could beat him in the sprint. The Slovenian seems too strong to be unhooked on the last climb. Behind, the counter group is 44 seconds away.
9.7km: Landa and Pogacar make the effort to maintain the gap. Mas, he does not pass any relay.
12 km – Landa took the lead of the trio on the descent. The Spaniard seems comfortable.
13.5km: The counter group is now at 38 seconds, it will be difficult to get in.
🔴 14.2 km – BIG PRESSURE PUT ON BY POGACAR IN THE DESCENT! It’s risky because the Slovenian is the fastest is three in the sprint.
🔴 15 km – It’s over for the Civiglio and Landa has just returned!
16.5km: Landa is about to come back, he is only three seconds behind the leading duo.
17.1km: Higuita clings to Bardet, the two men are a bit ahead of the rest of the group. They are 26 seconds behind the Mas-Pogacar duo.
17.5km: Landa topped out at 8 seconds but the counter group reduced the gap to 23 seconds now.
17.8km: Bardet is at the head of the group against, he tries to make the effort to come back.
18.1km: it delays, Landa is only 7 seconds away and the counter group 34 seconds behind the leading duo!
18.2km: the mano to mano between Mas and Pogacar got the better of Landa, dropped.
18.4km: Mas attacks, and Pogacar against! The two runners are still side by side.
18.6km: Mikel Landa managed to get back on the leading duo. Yates and Bardet are a little further.
18.9km: Only Enric Mas managed to follow Tadej Pogacar’s attack!
🔴 19km: Pogacar attack!!! Vingegaard is trapped!
19.2km: Acceleration of Davide Formolo, we prepare the attack of Pogacar.
🔴 19.4 km: BARGUIL RELEASES HIS TURN! Huge skimming!
🔴 19.9 km: It’s over for Nibali too! The Shark of Messina will not win for the last race of his career.
🔴 20 km: IT’S OVER FOR JULIAN ALAPHILIPPE! The Frenchman is let go, he will not win this Tour of Lombardy.
20 km – Damiano Caruso will not win. The Italian is dropped by the peloton.
20 km – Let’s go for the Civiglio (4.2 km at 9.7%). Wilco Kelderman is already let go.
24 km – There are 3.5 km left before the start of the Civiglio climb, where we risk seeing attacks from the favourites.
27 km – Vingegaard is not very well placed, he is in the middle of the pack next to Rudy Molard.
28 km – It gets stuck for Alexis Vuillermoz and Guillaume Martin at the back of the pack. It’s also hard for Quentin Pacher.
29 km – Joao Almeida has regained his place at the head of the pack and is setting the pace.
🔴 31 km – BREAK IN THE FRONT!! A group of 25 riders broke away, a few hundred meters from the foot of the Civiglio.
31 km – The Quick Step points the tip of its nose at the front of the peloton. There is little chance of seeing attacks before the ascent of Civiglio.
38 km – Small mechanical problem for Tao Geoghegan Hart. The Briton from Ineos changes his bike and leaves quickly.
More than 40 kilometers to cover in this Tour of Lombardy.
40 km – DSM, Movistar and Bora-Hansgrohe join UAE Emirates at the head of the pack. The pace seems to have dropped given the number of runners who returned after being dropped earlier.
41 km – Astana has not won a one-day World Tour race since 2020.
43 km – Despite the pace imposed by Almeida, a lot of riders dropped in the Madonna del Ghisallo rejoin the peloton, like Aurélien Paret-Peintre, present in the morning breakaway. They should nevertheless explode quickly in the Civiglio.
46 km – Joao Almeida is still at the head of the peloton and imposes a big pace on the flat. For the moment, Pogacar, Vingegaard, Alaphilippe, Bardet, Barguil, Nibali and Valverde are still there.
52 km – The racing tactics of the Jumbo Visma may seem surprising. Vingegaard’s lieutenants have worn themselves out for nothing and are gone. On the contrary, the UAE monopolizes the first six places of the peloton.
55 km – The peloton is now in the descent of the Madonna del Ghisallo. A time released, Julian Alaphilippe managed to pick up. But it might be hard in the Civiglio…
60 km – Julian Alaphilippe is not at his best. He backed up to the back of the peloton and his body language conveyed a certain pain. It’s not a good sign, there are still two hours of racing.
🔴 61 km – TEAM UAE TAKES THE RACE IN HAND! Big acceleration from Joao Almeida which hurts everyone.
61 km – There are still 2 km of climbing left and Harper (Jumbo-Visma) has moved away. Sam Oomen is in the hard too. Vingegaard finds himself without a teammate for the rest.
⚪ Valverde – Nibali, the end of a cycle
⚪ Alexis Vuillermoz will have to be smart to shine
65 km – No attacks to report in the Madonna del Ghisallo at this time.
🔴 66 km – MOHORIC IS NO LONGER! The Slovenian is also left behind by the peloton.
🔴 67 km – IT’S HARD FOR BETTIOL! The Italian was one of the outsiders but he was dropped by the peloton.
67 km – Jonas Vingegaard, he has only two teammates at his side. Yet it is the Jumbo Visma which is driving at the head of the peloton.
68 km – Tadej Pogacar seems comfortable, in the top positions of the peloton. They are six riders from Team UAE Emirates at the forefront.
68 km – The Jumbo Visma does a great job in this Madonna del Ghisallo. Many riders are dropped by the peloton.
😪 A classic as a farewell for Nibali and Valverde
The Messina Shark is competing in the last race of his career, as is Alejandro Valverde. The Italian leaves the roads with four Grand Tours to his name, the Spaniard with a Vuelta and a world championship title.
🔴 70 km – Platoon grouped! There is now no breakaway on this Tour of Lombardy. It is not a surprise. The runaways’ chances of making it through were very, very slim.
❌ Domenico Pozzovivo retired
The Italian veteran (39) also suffered a fall 130 km from the finish. The Wanty Gobert rider did not leave.
Another eight seconds ahead for the ten fugitives, taken from the foot of Madonna del Ghisallo.
😪 Sad end of career for Mikel Nieve
The Spaniard suffered a serious fall 154 km from the finish and could not start again. It was the last race of his career.
🚴🏼 The composition of the breakaway
Two Frenchmen are at the front: Kenny Elissonde (Trek Segafredo) and Aurélien Paret-Peintre (AG2R Citroen). They are accompanied by Alessandro De Marchi (Israel Premier Tech), Lawson Craddock (Bike Exchange), Simone Ravanelli (Drone Hopper), Luca Covili (Bardiani CSF), Christian Scaroni (Astana), Davide Bais (Eolo Kometa), Alex Tolio (Bardiani) and Natnael Tesfatsion (Drone Hopper).
⚪ Race update
There are still 80 km of racing to be entered before arriving at Come. Ten runaways are at the front and have a 30” lead over the rest of the peloton, which has controlled the race well since the start. They won’t go all the way and should be resumed soon.
⚡ Who to succeed Tadej Pogacar ?
The Slovenian is one of the big favorites for this 2022 edition. He will face him the winner of the last Tour de France Jonas Vingegaard, who took a long break after his coronation in Paris. Julian Alaphilippe and Valentin Madouas will also have their cards to play on the French side.
👊 Last monument of the season
The Dead Leaves Classic is the last big race of the season, a fortnight after the Worlds in Wollongong which crowned Remco Evenepoel. The Belgian is not present this Saturday on Italian roads.
👋 Hello everyone
Welcome to this live stream to follow the Tour of Lombardy. The entrants set off at 10:10 a.m. from Bergamo and will arrive in Como in the afternoon.
Who to succeed Tadej Pogacar on the Tour of Lombardy winners? Perhaps the Slovenian himself. In any case, the Team UAE Emirates rider advances as one of the favorites of the Dead Leaf Classic, which starts this Saturday October 8 (10:10 a.m.) in Bergamo and which will see the entrants arrive in Como at end of a journey of 253 km on Italian roads.

As during the last Tour de France, we could see an explanation between Pogacar and Jonas Vingegaard. But after his coronation in Paris, the first on a grand tour, the Dane took a long break. Too long, perhaps. Engaged in the Tour of Croatia last week, he was deprived of victory by Matej Mohoric for a small second. The Tour of Lombardy is his real recovery race but the questions about his state of form are legitimate.
A farewell race for Nibali and Valverde
The French could well take advantage of it, starting with Julian Alaphilippe. The former holder of the iridescent jersey won his time trial and was able to compete in the World Championships in Wollongong, Australia. But he could only see the superiority of the Belgian Remco Evenepoel. He will certainly be thirsty for revenge on the Lombard slopes. Valentin Madouas, Warren Barguil and Romain Bardet can also be cited among the outsiders.

This race will also be an opportunity to say goodbye to two great names in cycling, Vincenzo Nibali and Alejandro Valverde. The Italian and the Spaniard are competing this Saturday, October 8, in the last race of their very long career. The Requin de Messin leaves the road with four Grand Tours, El Bala with a Vuelta and a Spanish champion’s jersey.
