GTA 6: Bad news for all fans who are looking forward to the game

Grand Theft Auto 6, like many Rockstar Games projects, is spreading rumors like wildfire. Unraveling rampant speculation from real news is an exercise in itself. Also, things are changing, especially when it comes to developing video games right now. Let’s find out together why GTA 6 is not ready to arrive on your consoles.

GTA fans have been waiting for a sequel to GTA 5 for nearly a decade now. In fact, it would be hard to believe in its existence if it weren’t for the few mentions from official sources. But you’ll be happy to hear that Rockstar just officially announced that GTA 6 is in development.

“We are pleased to confirm that active development of the next installment in the Grand Theft Auto series is well underway”

wrote Rockstar Games in an article posted on its official website.

No release date announced yet

Unfortunately, there is currently no release date for GTA 6which is a real shame since it has been hotly tipped to release in 2022 since 2018. GTA fans and the media are still trying to unravel the mystery of this missing release date.

In 2020, Take-Two published a marketing report which suggested a release in 2023. Industry analyst Jason Cohen, who accurately predicted the launch window for Red Dead Redemption 2, said advertising budget and other factors in the report point to a launch between 2023 and 2024 for GTA 6.

But other industry insiders seem to say otherwise. According to these sources, GTA 6 won’t be released for at least 2-4 yearsbut more likely not before 2025.

Both of these theories seem to at least agree on 2024 as a possible release year, but more specifically they suggest that GTA 6 will likely release somewhere between 2023 and 2025.

To continue on the same theme, there is no official trailer yet. However, there are a few compelling fan-made trailers. One of the most popular is an April Fool’s Day joke posted by Marlon XGamer, which has received over 4 million views. The Portuguese Youtuber revealed the joke shortly after posting it, but not before it had fooled millions of viewers.

Some fake Rockstar Games YouTube channels with convincing names, like “Rockstar Games Official” and “Rockstar North”, have released similar trailers and teasers, much to the confusion of the internet. These trailers saturate search engines with misleading information that makes it look like there is a trailer when there isn’t.

Don’t let that fool you. For reference, the real Rockstar Games YouTube channel should be the verified one. When the GTA 6 trailer inevitably releases, it should be uploaded to this channel as well as the games media channels.

Where will GTA 6 take place?

Another big topic of speculation is the GTA 6 filming location. The Know, a channel known for its insider reports, reports the return of Vice City, a fictional location based in Miami, Florida, and featured in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City.

Other GTA fans have found clues to support this report. For example, Imgur user Tenet007 uploaded a comparison between GTA 5’s “Height of Society” map and a map of the United States that highlights Florida, Michigan, and Mexico.

GTA 6 characters

Ever since GTA 5 first introduced multiple protagonists to the series, theories about how Rockstar will handle playable characters in GTA 6 have been rife. In any case, everything suggests that it will be a novelty for the franchise.

Once again, The Know suggests that the game will feature a playable female protagonist, which would be a first for the series. Another rumor claims that there will be an option for a male or female protagonist. However, Rockstar has not confirmed the existence of a female protagonist or selectable protagonists.

It’s also unclear whether GTA 6 plans to continue multi-character storylines or return to single protagonists like in previous installments. You play a single character in GTA Online of course, whose wild success could sway Rockstar’s eventual decision.
