A car accident caused the death of two Mexican actors this Thursday, June 16, 2022, Raymundo Garduño Cruz and Juan Francisco González Aguilar, also known as “Paco Mufote”. They were in the middle of filming a new original series called “The chosen one” on Netflix. During this accident, six other members of the set were also injured and subsequently hospitalized.
This accident took place in Baja California, on the Santa Rosalia road segment, in a desert expanse. While transporting some of the cast members to the local airport in a van, the van abruptly ran off the road. Due to this, she turned on herself, injuring and killing two of the actors.
Netflix, after the accident of the two actors, makes an official statement
This accident took place during the Netflix filming of the new series “The chosen one”. This new series, based on a comic strip created by Mark Millar and Peter Gross, tells the story of a 12-year-old boy. He discovers that he is Jesus Christ and that his vocation in this world is to save humanity.
Writer Mark Millar in April 2022 tweeted about the start of filming for the Netflix series “The American Jesus.” Unfortunately, just two months into filming, this tragic accident took place, claiming the lives of two of the actors as well as changing the lives of many others.
After this fact, Netflix officially released a statement to the Deadline Hollywood column on June 20. They claim to be deeply affected by the accident which not only killed Ray Garduño and Juan Francisco González, but injured many other members of the set. Netflix precise “Our hearts go out to their loved ones and to those injured in this tragic accident.”
Redrum, a production company that worked on this series, also paid tribute to the victims on social networks. She says she is shocked and saddened by the deaths of two of her actors. Redrum also claims to have been in contact with the authorities, and adds that “Reports and testimony indicate that all safety protocols were in place and it was an unfortunate accident.”
Another tribute was made by the Baja California Department of Culture on social media. This government institution tweeted: “On behalf of the state government, we deeply regret the deaths of Raymoundo Garduño Cruz and Juan Francisco González Aguilar”. This followed by “Our condolences to his family, friends and the artistic community of Baja California. Rest in peace “.

The relatives of the deceased demand an exhaustive study
Relatives and friends of the victims of the accident communicated their fears regarding the labor standards encountered at the heart of the film company. Among other things, the writer and novelist Rick Zazueta accused Netflix and Redrum on Facebook of having caused the death of the two Mexicans. He underlines the problem of the conditions under which these two actors had to work. He adds on his Facebook page “His death is a tragedy not only because of the theft of these talents, but above all because these deaths have culprits (…) The actors have not stopped complaining of the harm that has been done to them. in particular in terms of transport and logistics (…) old panels with smooth tires, tired and overworked drivers – the actors transported like cattle to save a few pesos”.
He also asks his colleagues working on “The chosen one” to gather and interrupt the filming. He quotes Stacy Perskie but also Everardo Gout, who he believes is the real culprit of this accident, saying that the two should not go unpunished. He is convinced that not only Perskie and Everardo but also Netflix will try to hide their involvement in the accident. He also thinks that if the other actors don’t stand up for their late colleagues, the same thing could happen to them.
Faced with this terrible accident, a discussion is currently open between Netflix and the United States Actors Guild to find the culprit. Thus, until further notice, the filming of this new series is interrupted.
