Little Shiloh, 13, died in December 2021, carried away by breast cancer that no one believed. His parents intend to file a complaint against the medical establishments which did not believe in such a diagnosis.
It’s a drama like it almost never happens. Shiloh, 13, died of breast cancer in Val-d’Oise in December 2021. Victim of a late diagnosis, the young girl died of angiosarcoma, an extremely rare type of tumor. , reports The Parisian.
Six months later, Diane and Modibo, the little girl’s parents, intend to sue the health establishments and the attending physician who saw their daughter without prescribing any tests. “When I said it was cancer, I was told: ‘But, Madam, breast cancer at 12, that does not exist'”, explains the mother to our colleagues.
This drama begins in March 2021, when little Shiloh comes to get her mother, explaining to her that she suffers from the left breast. This one presented, according to the mother, “small pimples and a kind of orange peel”, reports The Parisian. Diane decides to take her daughter to the Women’s Imaging Center in Val-d’Oise. A doctor then draws up a first assessment: it could be mastitis – inflammation of the breasts -, the young girl presenting a “swollen, hot and painful” breast.
But the family is not convinced, and goes a month later to an emergency department. Because of her young age, Shiloh was not palpated, and was again diagnosed with mastitis. The little girl is put on antibiotics, and is referred to a dermatologist. However, Diane assures her: “Shiloh was very tired, she had trouble standing up”. In May, the mother discovers stains on the sheets of the teenager: her breast had started to ooze.
Once again hospitalized, this time at the Argenteuil hospital, Shiloh again suffered medical wanderings. She emerges from the health facility without an answer. We even suspect his parents of abuse. It was less than a month after celebrating his thirteenth birthday that the family managed to obtain a biopsy (a sample of tissue for analysis, editor’s note).
Refusal of care
The conclusion is there: Shiloh has a grade II breast angiosarcoma, a malignant tumor that “could have appeared elsewhere on the body”, says the doctor who treated her. But it is unfortunately too late: the tumor is progressing, and ends up taking the girl away on December 8, 2021, less than four months after the start of her chemotherapy.
Diane is convinced that her daughter has paid the price for the medical wanderings: “caught in time, there was the possibility that she would come out of it. Even if it takes ten years, I will go all the way”, assures the mother. The parents decided to file a complaint against “the health establishments and the attending physician who saw their daughter without prescribing examinations”, report our colleagues.
Me Sabine Doucinaud, the couple’s lawyer, intends to plead the refusal of care. “We should never have sent Shiloh home in her condition. The doctors didn’t know what she had, they should have kept her,” reports The Parisian.
