To reach this conclusion, the scientists in charge of the study sifted through data from more than 10,000 adults. And “compared to people who ate the least ultra-processed foods, those who ate the most were 80% more likely to have symptoms of mild or more severe depression,” they explained while emphasizing the link of cause and effect. “Ultra-processing foods depletes their nutritional value and also increases the calorie count, as ultra-processed foods tend to be high in added sugar, saturated fat and salt, while they are low in protein. , fiber, vitamins, minerals and phytochemicals.”

As recalled by the Health Insurance on its website, depression is characterized by mood disturbances (sadness, loss of pleasure) which lead to a pessimistic view of the world and of oneself.
